West Villages meeting 2013-05-16

Notes from West Villages Presidents Council meeting 2013-05-16 attended by Mr. Donnellan & Mrs. Winterbauer.

Presentation from Martin County Sheriff’s Office attended by Sheriff Snyder and his Neighborhood Watch Officer – Laura Passinesi

      • Sheriff Snyder encourages Neighborhood Watches in every community, even gated ones such as the West Villages.  However, to date, No “pillowcase burglars” have hit a gated community in Martin County.
      • Sheriff’s Office has made 9 arrests of “pillowcase burglars” in 2013, forty overall since Snyder has been in office.
      • Vehicle window tinting stops currently underway. Stops are being made. “Pillowcase burglars” use vehicles with tinted windows, sometimes disguised as local service companies.
      • In addition to the regular two patrol officers in Palm City, traffic officers & detectives are being used to find “pillowcase burglars.”
      • “Pillowcase burglars” are looking for jewelry, cash, coins, guns & private information. These are all attractive to “pillowcase burglars.”
      • Sheriff Snyder recommends getting a safe and bolting it to the floor to store valuables, especially guns.
      • “Pillowcase burglars” are able to break through hurricane resistant glass sliding doors.
      • If you see a suspicious activity in your Village, call 911!  Do not call West Gate Security!  They are directed to avoid confrontation with suspects.  They cannot apprehend suspects.  They cannot touch suspects.
      • Sheriff’s Office uses reverse 911 if civilians need to be notified of any incidents, etc.  This calls your land-line automatically.  If you want to get notification on your cell phone, register the number with the Martin County Fire Rescue.  Try their web site.
      • Sheriff Snyder – “We need to get back to caring neighborhoods.”
      • Neighborhoods are encouraged to participate in the Sheriff’s Neighborhood Watch program which meets monthly to share info on what is going on in neighboring zones.
  • Heronwood is planning to resurface their roadways in next several years.  They would be interested in combining with other villages in order to reduce costs.
  • MDPOA has repaired 25 sidewalk in West Village locations in this week at a cost of $11,704.
  • Surface Water – The bulkhead by the MDGC halfway house is scheduled for repair.  WVPC regretfully accepts John Crisanti’s resignation as our rep to the committee.  WVPC thanks John for his service.
